Hollywood competition means better China films

Jackie Chan says more Hollywood films in the Chinese market will allow Chinese filmmakers to increase the quality of their domestic production. Underpurchers from China and the US is expected this year to reach a new agreement on the release of foreign films in China, now the number 2 film market in the world to North America. More Hollywood films would be more competition for local films, which last year accounted for 58 percent of the total funds, or $ 38 billion funds.

Chan told reporters yesterday that such a spectacular box office growth would not have happened if the Chinese filmmakers turned their films “behind closed doors without competition.” The Hong Kong Action Star is a member of the official advisory body of national legislators, which meets this week.
